Kinja'd!!!

I built my girls a sandbox today. We wasted no time in busting out the old Tonkas. It has a hinged lid that folds up to make the two benches.

Kinja'd!!!

Next I’m going to get a truckload of wood chips to cover the area all around the sandbox. Eventually I want to build a fence and a swing set back here too.

Although tomorrow I’m going over to a buddy’s house to build another sandbox. Why? Well, I paid for a 1/4 yard of play sand, but they loaded me with more like 3/4 of a yard of sand.

Kinja'd!!!

Can’t do that with a minivan!

I still have this much left!

Kinja'd!!!

So I called up a friend who also has a little kid, because there’s no sense in it going to waste.

I can’t take credit for the lid, my wife found the idea somewhere on the intranets.

I had to stare at the hinge placement for a second. That’s a neat design!

Yeah, it kind of messed with my mind too. Once I started building it, I figured it out.

That’s how it always is.

My last house (mobile home..) had a dividing wall between the living room and dining area made out of Pallets. Girlfriends idea from FB and it looked great.

Looked like this actually.

Kinja'd!!!

That’s kinda creepy actually. It looked identical except for the chair.

I love it. I’ll do it again soon. The materials were all free except for the screws and Linseed Oil.

I needs more info on that lid. Mine is cultivating mold and also not a bench

It’s 12 pieces of 1x4, spaced 1/2" apart. The outside two on each side are screwed down permenantly. The second two on each side are connected by the vertical 2x4's, and are hinged on the top side to the permenantly mounted pairs. This second pair flips all the way over, and becomes the seat bottom. The inside pairs are screwed connected to the flat 2x4's on the top, and have hinges underneath. These become the setbacks, and the flat 2x4's extend down to support the back.

It sounds kind of complicated, and it messed with my mind a bit, but once I actually started building it, it made sense and was pretty easy to put together.

My wife found the idea on the intrawebs, here is the link.

My dad did something similar in our basement between our Laundry room and his man cave/ office. Built the 2nd half of the dividing wall and covered the whole wall with pallet boards.

We also built a 24 x8 x8 shed entirely out of pallets and old tarps. Had less then $150 bucks into all the hardware/door/ roofing materials.

Fun Oppo fact. I lived down the road from Be Cool Radiators and used to get pallets from them by the truck load for my projects and bon fires

Right on!

Pallets make the best fires! Stack six or so up and light em off. It’s incredible. They don’t burn long though.

Yeah i know thats why I’d get 50+ per fire. Hit up Be cool and a few other places in town on Wednesday and Thursday and have a big fire on Friday or Saturday

Here is a pick of that wall that my dad built

Very nice! I built that exact design for my son, fall 2014, using cedar. It still gets a ton of use, and it’s rock solid. The cover keeps all the damn cats and raccoons out, let’s enough water in to keep the sand just right for bulldozers and castles, and is still open enough to not turn in to a wolf spider house. Indeed, Tonkas (real, metal ones) in full effect.
